Shaping Land
Valarion partners with clients to deliver post-mining land use outcomes that exceed public expectation and pay for themselves
High value horticultural post-mining land use
We are trialling the establishment of horticultural plantations on rehabilitated land. This post-mining land use aims to reduce topsoil requirements by 50% compared with that required for creating grazing land. Salt tolerant horticultural operations that permit irrigation with moderately saline void water have the potential for increase land offtake values by 400% above grazing outcomes. We are looking for additional mining companies to partner our verification of scalable horticultural solutions in semi-arid regions.
Grazing management plans for sloped rehabilitated landforms
Valarion can assist clients in re-introducing commercial livestock production on sloped rehabilitated landforms. We draw on grazing management research and practices developed for regenerating degraded land in Queensland’s Bowen Basin to create management frameworks for guiding the sustainable use of rehabilitated land. Valarion can also arrange to implement short term grazing trials to accelerate the certification of land as rehabilitated.
Creating internal carbon offsets
Valarion has delivered eligibility studies for registering carbon offset projects on rehabilitated landforms. We can assist your company in designing and registering projects that satisfy the legislated additionality requirements for generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) from rehabilitated land.
